The party finished their investigation of the dungeon. Along the way, they ran into a party of the ECW's minions, who were there to loot the dungeon for themselves; they managed to take out most of them, and discovered a diary on one of the soldiers that contained some details on troop movements.
After some rooting around in the depths, they managed to rescue Delmak, and sent him and Salvadore off on their way. They also found some money, along with a couple of magical items.
All of that taken care of, they're now back on their way to Cattree, hoping to help head off the approaching army.
1.10. Session 9 -
The party arrived in Cattree, the capital-in-exile of the catfolk and Teddie's old stomping grounds. Though they encountered many refugees fleeing from Arabella's army, the size of the city and the scale of its population still dwarf anything they've encountered until now.
Rosemary offered to make introductions, and took the party to the Drunken Barrel. That turned out to be the hiding place of the Cattree Resistance cell, and she introduced and endorsed the party to Pawmira Blue, the overall leader of the Resistance.
Pawmira was grateful for their offer of support, as well as the intelligence from the diary they found. Though she didn't have anything for them right away, she wrote them a letter of recommendation to get them an audience with His Royal Meowjesty, and tasked Purrcy Cinnamon to act as their guide to the palace.
He took to that task dutifully, but on the way the party was sidetracked. Bug spotted another halfling pilfering a piece of jewelry and decided to try and pinch her score, but Purrcy's sense of justice got her caught. The confrontation quickly turned hostile, then confusing as another catfolk showed up and let Bug know that–for reasons she can't remember–she is no longer welcome in "his town". Unfortunately (depending on how you view it), both he and the halfling retreated before Bug could get any answers.
Pawmira's letter got the party in at the palace, but instead of King Clawdius the Puur'd, they were met by Cattherine Sealpoint, a member of his council. She allayed the party's worries that they had been brushed aside. First, by informing them that she and the rest of the council constitute the real power behind the throne. Then, by asking them for help–reports were coming in about guards on the wall going missing, with no bodies found to explain the disappearances. Though the matter seemed minor, it concerned her, especially this close to a major battle, and she wanted them to investigate.
The party accepted the task and headed off to meet Captain Clawford, commander of the north gate. The captain was clearly not pleased to see them; though he agreed with Cattherine that a defensive strategy was best, he thought that her "disappearances" were simple cases of desertion that needed no investigation. Still, with little other choice he allowed the party access to the walls and his papers, so long as they don't interfere with the preparations.
No sooner is that done than Bartholemeow, second in command of the local resistance, lets them know that Pawmira also has a job for them. Apparently the diary makes mention of some kind of special siege engine which Arabella thinks will let her immediately breach the walls of Cattree. Details are sparse; the party decides to split up and try to handle both threats, with Bug, Yeye, and Teddie searching for the missing guardsmen, and Elise headed out into the maw of Arabella's army to scout out the mystery weapon.
