1.2. Campaign Blurb/Other

You will be joining a guild–a prestigious one (NPCs in this world have npc roles, I refuse to believe everyone is a badass, got a problem with it you can @me but I will ignore it) that you have already auditioned for. It is not just mercenary work, it's all kinds of work. Who you are is up to you; are you running away from something? Are you hoping to start a new life? Are you just bored?

Details to add:

  • Dueling happens a lot
  • The land up north wants to take the Island for its holy sites.
  • The land south is fended off by mercenaries and a holy order.
  • 5 years is required before you don’t need to be in a guild. You will be in a guild and take missions. It will be drop in and drop out with a series of backstory and mission stories with an overarching plot that unfolds by your actions.
  • People think it's kinda weird to wear full armor in cities
  • Most guilds aren't as "total" as the Blue Flame; many guild members are day-workers who come by when they need work
  • Magical beasts on the island are more dangerous than elsewhere

1.3. Important Locations

1.3.1. Telon Island

Telon [Island] is the only place safe for all magic users, the other nations allow their magicians to stay but they need to pay a steep tax to continue their practices.

The island is home to holy relics and sacred sites; rumor has it that Gods themselves formed the island out of their blood.

The island has become a place for guilds between two warring nations on the west and east sides. At first, they tried to capture the island but now they just hire them to fend off the other side.

Telon is a place where war is all around, but it never truly affects the island itself. The island just profits from it; to be a citizen at Telon is to be a part of a guild for five years before being allowed to be a part of any government function (rome rules).

However, while war may not be happening, reputation means everything. Duels of honor, magic duels, trials and tribulations for fame and fortune.

Telon is a place of knowledge, learning, honor, holy sites, and work.

  • Island was discovered/created(?) around 500 years ago
    • There are legends that go back further than that; some people theorize that the island disappears and reappears every thousand years or so
  • Myth of the Maeglune Brothers
    • Five brothers, all of who sought a precious item
    • 5000 year old legend
    • The eldest brother lost his eye, dueling a god for the item he was seeking

1.3.2. Guild City

  • Presumably one of the larger (the largest?) cities on Telon Island.
  • Government is split up between Western Monarch and Lightbrigher Way (location-wise)
  • Policing is an informal affair that is done equally by the volunteer militia and the Blue Flame guild
  • East Slums are mostly made of ppl who didn't join any guild
    • Ppl who don't join a guild are second-class citizens; people who start a guild stint and then abandon it are banished from the island
  • Guild City was founded where it was because of natural healing springs that are redirected into the wells; they instantly clean themselves and heal people who drink from them
  • No death sentence in Guild City; indentured servitude is the more typical punishment
  • The Old Ward is the scholars' section, and contains the Polsia, the great library that houses the guild named after it.
  • Lightbrigher Way is the shops district, and uses its access to the river to receive and send goods; mostly destroyed by the great wave
  • New Stark is the merchants' residential district; sort of the middle class area
  • Western Monarch is the noble district
  • The Misty Docks were largely destroyed in the great wave, but are being swiftly rebuilt
  • Silverwell lays right outside the south gate, and has most of the jeweled wells the city is famous for
  • Three idols protect the city:
    • One idol shields the city from the ocean
    • One idol powers the healing wells
    • One idol (stolen) powers a magical shield that protects the city from ambient dark magic and other threats
      • Only the council, head librarian, and us know about the last idol

1.3.3. Wagner Village

  • Small village north of Guild City
  • Around the village is a semi-wall made of pine, that could easily be overrun but offers some defense
  • Canyon is behind the town (to the north)
  • Village is the sole source of a rare, stronger type of wood
  • Druids don't care for them, but there's a tenuous peace between the town and the druids
    • They figure that the druids could overrun them if they became too big of a problem

1.3.4. Mountainfall

  • City in the mountains
  • Where Patrick recruited Waller, at a political rally
  • There are some small, outlying settlements in the nearby mountains
  1. Mountain Gate
    • Main entrance to the city, built into the mountains
  2. Merchant's District
  3. Twilight Hill
    1. Library
      • Sort of a community center for non-human/elven races
      • First floor is more popular novels, histories
      • Second floor has more magical research, more like the Guild City library
      • Third floor is staff-only; decor incorporates a lot of magic (floating lights, staircase)

  • The people here are not a part of the central government of the island (Not all of the island has been civilized).
  • There are no members of any guild there and no one working to be a part of the overseeing government. They are just small folk that came to Guild City looking for protection.

  • Mayor Rosemond is the one who requested us
    • He's not comfortable around spellcasters
    • In addition to what's on the flier, some of their herds have been poisoned
    • There is a line of destruction towards one of the herds/towards the fence
    • The mayor is convinced it's a tiger
    • Hargar whispers something in his ear; the (very successful) vineyards weren't attacked
  • Investigating the poisoned animals
    • The head shepherd is one of the people that was taken; start w/ the sheep
      • A lot of dead (bloody) sheep, the remainder lying on the ground clearly sick
      • Specific type of poison–scorpionX10
        • There are a few things this could be, all of them have a scorpion's stinger (Giant Scorpion, Manticore)
          • No clawmarks, but do see teethmarks
            • Some of this damage was done for sport
    • Destruction at the broken wall goes into another farm
      • That farm does not have any poisoned animals
        • Does have a dog tho
        • The sheep don't eat here–they don't graze on this grass
        • Farmer thought we were there to hurt him?
          • Saw the monster in passing; believes his dog bit the monster's tail and scared him away, chased him down to the wall
            • The druids don't allow them to have pets??
          • Monster crawled away; he said it has flaming claws
          • Had big leathery wings
      • Mostly shepherds; some of their sheep were killed but none were poisoned
      • Scorch marks all over the wall; looks like it was crumbled by the creature just leaning on it
        • Ground is crawled upon; nearby five holes are scorched in the ground, and the same pattern repeats several times 7-10 ft apart
          • Trees are fine around where the crawling happened, but as you go away from the sheep far, the trees going towards the other farms are damaged
  • Figure out the monster is a wyvern
  • The first victim was the shepherd whose sheep were poisoned; no one is sure where he disappeared from, but they assume it was from his house
  • The cowherd whose cows were poisoned was the second victim
  • The attacks on the herds and the disappearances happened at the same time
  • They have paths that they are "allowed" to take in the forest, the rest belongs to the druids; we can find them by going off those
  • Normally grazes his sheep near a marked path about a half mile away
    • Head there
      • Part of the area allowed to the villagers
      • Beautiful cavern nearby, has gemstones in it
      • See some herbs nearby that the sheep grazes on that we know grants immunity to wyvern poison!
        • We pick a bunch of the herbs - Scorpionbane
          • Use the herbs in a big roast to prep for the battle the next day

2.6. Session 5 - [2024-04-10 Wed]

  • Go off to see the druids, following the path of devastation left by the wyvern
    • Duncan finds the path to the druids
    • Guiomar sees the same deer from earlier; no one else does, it's invisible to everyone else
      • The deer guides the party into the woods; they enter a different part of the forest
      • Enter a clearing around a lake, occupied by people wearing animal skins going about their tasks
      • Deer leads us to the water; as people see it, they bend in reverence
        • Turns to stare directly at me; see fire in its void-like eyes
          • Sinks into the water, and then everyone can see the figure of the deer
        • Keth the orc druid comes to meet us
          • Knows about the wyverns, but the "flaming talons" thing is a new development; takes us back to his village across the lake
      • Biri dives into the lake because he sees a figure
        • The figure (skeleton?) has a sword
        • Dives towards the figure; hands and seaweed start reaching out to grab him
          • Has the experience of losing his warlock powers; the statue rejects him because he no longer owns his soul
          • Tries to still grab the sword, fighting with the statue
            • Gets the sword, the statue sinks
              • The druids are blown away; they've never seen this happen before, most people didn't know there was a sword down there
  • Keth takes us into his library/study and shows us his bestiary
    • Says the village must have angered the wyvern somehow, since they've lived in harmony with it until now
    • His book has no mention of fire with regards to wyverns
      • But the wyvern of Dragonweld has been around for 75-100 years terrorizing people; supposedly once a druid himself that angered the gods by trying to attune himself with the island, and was cursed to take that form
        • Druid Narsi may have more information on the legend
    • Gives us the location of the cave where we can likely find the wyvern
  • Duncan keeps the sword; it changes size
  • Duncan tells the party about how he can be resurrected easily and cheaply
    • Doesn't know why, but his soul is bound to the mortal plane?
      • Died for the first time when he was 11; has died about 4 more times since
  • Tytori determines from Narsi's spellbook that someone has cast a ritual on the wyvern
    • Gives it fire claws, stun tongue
    • Weak to water
    • The ritual to make the wyvern powerful was the one that Evan witnessed in the woods
    • There is a water spell that makes a rainstorm in the same book
      • Requires a type of crystal found in the same cave the wyvern is in
  • Party goes to the cave
    • Plan is to have the guys bait the dragon out while Evan and Ty sneak in to get the crystals for the water spell
    • Tempt the wyvern out of its cave
    • Evan and Ty sneak into the cave
      • Large on the inside
      • Small horde of treasure
      • Walls are lined with crystals, more dense the further in
    • The wyvern is more heavily "armored" than normal; heavier, makes it harder to fly
    • We kill the wyvern; it doesn't turn back into a guy
    • When we get back to the wagon, Waller is running up… with a puppy!!!

2.7. Session 6 - [2024-04-17 Wed]

We returned to the village wyvern in tow to explain what we'd discovered. The mayor asked for it's corpse to stuff it and turn it into a tourist attraction, but we declined. We returned to town without incident. We received an update that the mercenary captain Patrick hired the assassin, and that somewhere far away he's trying to form his own guildship. We then did some downtime stuff. Evan took judge lessons, Duncan trained the dog, Tytori investigated a cult at the library, and biri looked into Patrick more.

425gp
Rope ladder (approximately 50 feet) (feet or inches, probably feet)
3 flasks of alchemists fire
Medium shield made out of dark wood (it looks nice)
A laquered wooden chalice (inlaid with gold, probably worth a pretty penny)
Hobo nunchucks
masterwork lance
Set of goggles (Goggles of somewhat magic)
Special wood staff (its special)
potion of water (breathing)
Engraved stone dice (pair of 6's)
Silver necklace (the only magic is the magic of beauty)

  • Waller is under "house arrest", was visited by Biri and Duncan
    • They don't know as much as they could
    • Patrick hired them at an anarchist rally at Mountainfall
      • Wasn't aware that he has a "guild" set up in the Silverfrost Mtns
  • Waller is going on trial for idol theft; Han has had all of the judges from the Blue Flame guild recuse themselves to avoid the appearance of partiality
  • Waller's idol theft, the library theft, and a third idol theft (failed) all just happened at the same time–seemingly unrelated except for happening at the same time

2.8. Session 7 - [2024-04-24 Wed]

  • Magic item identification time!
    • Staff is made of the ironwood from Wagner Village; is uncarved at the moment; +1 staff
      • Incantation laid on it; +1 spell attacks, ignore half-cover
    • Goggles are slit vertically
      • Hear a voice as I cast identify asking what I want; "I perceive"; can tell when people are lying or see things well
      • "Finder's Goggles"
      • When you make an insight check, you can add 1d4 to your check. When worn, add your proficiency to Perception checks; if you are already proficient, add your proficiency again.
      • Only the wearer can hear the goggles
    • Sword's magic resembles more fae/druidic than arcana magic
      • Sword is connected to the leyline running below the Dragonweld
        • Leyline is of average strength, damage 2d6
      • Sword's strength is determined by its proximity to leylines
  • Guiomar spends his downtime learning about the history of the Blue Flame Guild
    • Han and a tortle named Wack founded the guild
      • Han is a straight-up fighter, Wack is more of a swashbuckler
      • Started with just themselves, and built from there into a large guild
        • Eventually, Wack left Guild City; his farewell letter apologized for leaving, says "I must go where a man, a creature, a tortle can be as big as a man, a creature, a tortle can be."
    • Third "big deal" member was a Tabraxi named Brightcliff, who is out of the city on a journey
  • There's a gang that's been extorting Guild City businesses for all of their earnings
    • Mostly in Lightbringer Way
    • Tytori and Biri were asked by Han to check out a cafe in his place so as not to raise attention
      • Saw the extortion happen! Took the shop's entire take.
        • The shops will close soon if something isn't done
        • Thugs are wearing yellow armband
  • Guiomar, Tytori, and Duncan go to stop the gang
    • Guiomar is in an armorer and one of the yellow band gang walks in
      • The gang jumps him and takes his armband, uses it to track him to his gang at Silverwell
        • Duncan and Guiomar do see some Blue Flame members around and let one of them know what we're doing; it's Jacques, who sets up a perimeter
      • Take out the whole party nonlethally, capture a guy
        • The actual base is in the cellar of a nearby building
          • Raid it, take out the leader Duth and the rest of the mooks
            • "A little help from your friend - D" - Note found on a dragonbreath potion held by Duth
            • Find a bunch of incriminating items in the Yellow Band Gang, including plans for the Polsia theft
            • The plans don't say anything about extortion; Duth apparently did that on his own
            • Include manifestos about why they wanted to steal the idol
            • We'll need to sort through the materials before we can find out more
  • Snagged Potion of Fire Breath from Duth; gave to Duncan
  • Biri's eyes go blank for a sec, then he disappears??? Just walks into the river.

2.9. Session 8 - [2024-05-01 Wed]

  • Pick up w/ Biri's sideplot
    • Compelled to walk in, not his choice
    • Hears the voice of his patron ("The Spark") as he's carried along
      • It was also his patron that was under the lake in the druid's circle(?)
      • This is the first time he's had contact w/ it while fully awake
      • Tells Biri that there's trouble
        • "At the Raven Fjord… there lies your enemy…"
        • "Use this when you need it." - Comes to w/ a flat rock in his hands
    • Comes to in the dorm w/ Guiomar shaking him; provides the info to the rest of the party, says it's from his god
  • Han doesn't want to keep the Yellow Band Gang in Blue Flame custody but doesn't have a great alternative
    • Finds a gang member who knows what was stolen from who, Tytori is taking care of making sure those funds are redistributed
      • Han delegates that to Zageth, another BF member
    • Going to appoint some BF guys to watch the cell with Duth, release the rest of the gang members
  • Waller is going to get a choice between exile or service
    • Happening in the courtyard of the BF
      • The actual guild members are standing back so as to look less involved; Han is there to make sure no one starts anything (/*cough*Jacques*cough*)
    • Three judges - tortle, leonid, human
    • Waller claims that she did not know what stealing the idol would do; she thought it would weaken their defenses, not cause massive flooding
      • Says the city treats its systems as more real than the people that make it up
    • Duncan, not at the trial, notices some suspicious people trying to sneak into the trial by scaling down the inside of the wall
      • Alerts a guard and takes off after the intruders
      • The dog comes get the rest of the party
      • Get in a fight with the guards; we take them out, two of them are chunky salsa, one is a prisoner (Dark Eyes)

2.10. Session 9 - [2024-05-08 Wed]

  • Start immediately after the last session–ninjas just went down
  • Investigating the bodies
    • Ninjas have a magic tattoo w/ unknown purpose - Eye in a diamond shape
    • No other identifying marks
  • The crowd is getting restless, Han climbs up on the wall and calms them
  • Leonard and Campbell recognize the tattoo as the mark of an assassin's order when Duncan shows it to them
    • Neither one tells Duncan the name, but Leonard knows–he's too afraid to tell Duncan
    • Biri knows the group - recalls seeing the guild of assassins somewhere near the Palace of Har
      • Thinks the glyphs would allow the assassins and ppl around them to be spied on
  • Judges render their verdicts on Waller
    • Joseph sentences Waller to exile from the island
    • Leonard sentences Waller to execution
    • Campbell agrees with exile
  • Waller is exiled; Duncan gives her a letter of introduction to his old monastery
  • Interrogate the Dark Eyes Ninja; he tries to kill himself, but Biri casts Suggestion
    • They were there to kill Waller, but he doesn't know who wanted her killed
    • The assassin's "guild" is a religious order
    • They were going to a safehouse in Underwood Row to meet Goatman after the job
  • Biri: "Patrick gets stronger by killing his allies" - he has to play a hand in their death, and they have to have been his allies at some point
  • Current Leads:
    • Goatman
    • Yellow Band Gang lair evidence
    • Waller's old social group - Patrick infiltrating?
  • Tytori lets the party know:
    • There is supposed to be a magical shield around the city, but that was powered by the idol stolen from the library
      • Nobody knows it's missing (because no one knows it's there) except council members and the head librarian
      • Protects from the ambient dark magic in the area, rampaging druids, etc
    • Prominent people know about the shield; very few know it's gone
  • Go over the materials we recovered from the Yellow Band Gang
    • Meet up with Zageth, who was reviewing/decoding the notes we retrived
    • The group name is the "Golden Arm"
      • Duth was the "ground guy"
        • Former bandit who joined this organization in "atonement"; didn't exactly work out
      • Delemar
        • Wants to become a god(???)
        • Not satisfied with the guild system
      • Demacus
        • Super racist
    • Demacus is likely in Mountainfall; nothing seemingly to do w/ Patrick/Waller's group
    • Assassins' symbol nowhere in the notes
  • Decide to ask Almon to hire us for a fake job in Mountainfall
    • Tytori goes
      • Red tries to stop her and challenges her to a duel, 6AM at the arch
        • Resents Tytori's access to the library
      • Meets with Almon
        • Was waiting on his date
        • Councilmen Robbi and Buttons were the ones who decided to keep the knowledge of the idol theft secret
        • There's been a motion to remove Almon as head librarian for his failure to protect the idol
        • Will talk to Han and come up with a pretext to send us to Mountainhall
  • Blue Flame Guild goes to deal with Goatman instead of us

2.11. Session 10 - [2024-05-15 Wed]

  • Got paid 700gp for the last job (600 job fee, 100 wages)
  • Tytori wins her wizard duel decisively
  • Party heads out to Mountainfall
    • Pass through the Dragonweald
      • An owlbear is following in the brush along side us
        • Someone stumbles on our camp in the night–it's nearby and hungry
          • Go after the owllion ourselves
          • See Keth the druid–he fed the owllion, it's all good

2.12. Session 11 - [2024-05-22 Wed]

  • Head up the mountain pass to get to Mountainfall quicker
    • See fewer people on the mountain pass; mostly miners
    • Pass by a cave with someone calling for help; says his leg is stuck under a rock
      • The cave walls are very sparkly, but we can't see anyone immediately inside
        • Lined with the equivalent of fool's gold–can tell that this was crafted, not natural
      • Single humanoid standing straight up at the edge of a pool of water, staring into it
        • Says he can't see anything; in terrible condition, look like they've been stuck there for days
        • Tytori teleprots him away from the pool, and he seems to recover from his delusion
      • Party gets ambushed by "weird stingray creatures" flying near the ceiling
      • Biri and the man fall into the water; Biri sees people who have died looking into the pool and dead people from his past
        • Guiomar teleports the both of them out; sees a house he knows on fire, with people he knows in it
      • Party collapses the cave; John Smith (the guy who got caught)
  • John Smith helps us get pass the city; apparently they've been keeping things under lockdown?
    • Luckily we have papers, but he has to wait outside
    • There was a terrorist attack that has caused the city to heighten security
  • Mountainhall is more industrial than Guild City; there are golems doing manual labor, warforged roaming the streets, steam and smoke in the air
    • The area around the gates is fairly busy, but we have a place to stay in the Merchant's District
    • The streets are much quieter than in Guild City; most people are indoors, all of the work seems to be done by the constructs
  • Make it to our accommodations in the Merchants District
    • Innkeeper is arguing with someone; someone named "Vai" is suspicious apparently
  • Guiomar, Tytori, and Biri get stared at, comments made about them
  • Party decides to start with the head librarian's friend who we're supposedly meeting; going to tell them that we're here to retrieve a stolen book (rather than tell them abt the idol)

2.13. Session 12 - [2024-05-29 Wed]

  • Library is in the Twilight Hill Area
  • Heading to the library; as we pass out of the Merchant's District, see the remains of a still-burning building
    • Was intentionally burnt down with improvised incendiaries; stylized human face symbol painted in red on the building
    • Building was filled w/ books and pamphlets–nothing overtly political?
  • There's an angry mob surrounding the library, want the library gone
    • Golems are guarding the library from anyone w/ hostile intent
    • The staff seem used to this; the patrons are nervous
    • Library staff and patrons are much more racially diverse than the rest of the city
    • Seems more like a community center than a place for academics
  • Talk to a centaur behind the library helpdesk
    • Asks if we're the ones here to see Balthazar; say sure, that's us
    • Brings us up to the third floor; the alarm is foley-based
      • Gil's noise is an obnoxious braying; Biri manages to copy it
  • Party goes up to see Balthazar
    • He ushers us into the room and asks us to touch a transportation orb
    • Apparently his daughter has been taken? And he requested help from "the agency".
  • Teleports us to a completely frozen room
    • Room was clearly used for study/contemplation before it was frozen
    • It's extremely cold
    • Note on a table, addressed to Balthazar: "To the tainted blood librarian–your daughter is here, you must find her."
    • Room is mostly empty
    • We're in a "pocket dungeon"
    • His daughter was kidnapped by racists trying to get him to leave the city; he's one of the city's last bastions of racial inclusivity
      • They elected a new governor about a year ago, and its his followers who are responsible for the racial violence; it escalated much more quickly than he expected
    • Find a dead body in the pocket dungeon, wearing armor with the symbol of Duncan's holy order
      • Has a book filled with names
    • Some more bodies; seem to be mercenaries. Have ransom notes on them, all for different people's children.
    • Biri finds a mirror in a room at the end of a tunnel
      • Sees not himself in the mirror, but someone else who makes a face at him
      • It's the dungeon's designer; he does these for hire
        • It's a help construct
        • Tells us where to find the kids
      • Hired by the Golden Hand; Demacus hired him, along with the other two
        • Thinks Demacus is an asshole
      • Find 5 kids in the room, none of them human (1 goblin, 1 kobold, 3 dragonborn)
        • Kids are from Mountainfall (kobold), Clan Ouster (Silver, around Mountainfall), Clan Crash (green, around Silverfrost), Clan Ruckus (bronze, around Anstrom Sands) (for the dragonborn)
        • Goblin kid is able to tell us where she was brought to when she was kidnapped
  • Make it back to the library
    • Balthazar tells us he thinks Kane is behind the kidnappings
      • Has the three council members under his thumb
      • Demacus is the guy he thinks is the man behind the man for Kane and the racist movement in Mountainhall
        • He's only met Demacus on two occasions:
          • In passing at the library in Guild City
          • At a dinner party in Mountainhall
            • Balthazar thought it was strange he was in Mountainhall and looked into it; he seems to be rallying the reactionaries in Mountainhall
            • Demacus was a major figure in the creation of the golems that help run the city
        • Balthazar didn't think Demacus was racist when he knew him; Demacus was married to a dwarf for five years until she died
          • He was a nice person before, but his whole attitude changed very suddenly
      • Kane was born in the west, served in Guild City, became well known in Mountainhall
        • Was originally against using golems for manual labor; his political position on that also did a very quick 180
    • Balthazar may leave town
  • Leads:
    • Demacus doesn't go out very often now. Best bet to get close to Demacus is to get close to Kane or one of the council members
    • We know where the goblin child was kidnapped
  • Phones don't exist

2.14. Session 13 - [2024-06-12 Wed]

  • While the non-human-passing party members are gone, Duncan and Evan gather info
    • Evan ducks into a respectable looking tavern, and realizes it's filled with non-human-passing people
      • The vibe is not chill; it looks like she's interrupted some kind of informal meeting and she is not welcome
    • Duncan heads to a nearby bakery to buy food to hand out in the slums
      • He sees some people running down the street outside; he mentions this to the baker, who seems mildly perturbed but just tells Duncan to "stay indoors".
        • Duncan does not stay indoors
          • Sees several people turn the corner up ahead, weapons in hand; golden armbands!
          • Follows them down the road
          • They make it to the tavern Evan is in, and the leader throws a bottle of burning liquor in the window; the inn is set on fire!
            • Evan puts the fire out; Duncan distracts most of the rioters by throwing money around, but several are more dedicated
              • Evan deals with the ones coming through the front
                • Manages to run off all of the rioters coming that way
              • Duncan deals with the ones in the back
                • Scares three away, kills one
  • Party meets back up at the inn
    • Show the dead Order adventurer to Duncan; he takes the armor, then prepares to bury the body
  • The party hears an eavesdropper nearby
    • Bud Chase; wearing a golden armband…
    • He doesn't want to tell us who he works for, because he's afraid of the consequences
    • Was told to watch us from the moment we came into the city by Bostan; Bostan saw us come in at Mountaingate
      • Tytori gets the name of a bar that Bud goes to for his jobs in the Merchant district
      • Jessup is the name of his boss at the golem workshop
    • There's another GA member (Karen) keeping tabs on us as well
  • Biri impersonates Bud and heads w/ Duncan (in disguise) to the bar where he gets his GA jobs
    • Biri gets stopped by… Karen(?)
      • Tells her that the party is actually a bunch of racists themselves, here to find and foil a non-human plot
      • Biri gets her to walk away by exploiting the dormant-but-not-forgotten love affair she and Bud shared in their younger years
    • They make it to the bar and get into the GA meeting
      • Bostan is there, along with another guy who is also ludicrously attractive (Councilman Abbot)
        • They're meeting mostly about how to get the library banned from the city
      • Apparently Bud and Abbot have beef; "don't get close to Jessup again"
      • Bostan is willing to hire "Ignatius"; he's also getting cold feet
        • Gives Bud a note to deliver to Bostan's superior, Ezekiel
          • Note has the location of the next firebombing - one of the council members??
        • Hires "Ignatius" to murder the kids that we rescued from the dungeon in the library; there's a second guy also assigned to the job (who's name is also Duncan)

2.15. Session 14 - [2024-07-03 Wed]

  • Guiomar follows Biri
    • He helps forge a fake note to Ezekiel
    • They get followed by a figure, but manage to spot him
      • The figure follows Biri when he ducks down an alley; Biri tries to fight him off but only reveals that it's some sort of metal chassis
        • Guiomar blasts the metal figure down the alley; turns out it's being piloted by a small kenku
          • They chat for a bit; the kenku has a grudge against Bud and wants him dead. Guiomar agrees to turn Bud over in exchange for help.
            • They go to the kenku's safe spot to further discuss
    • Biri makes it to the blacksmith's shop where the letter is to be delivered
      • In the basement, Ezekiel is waiting; wearing two gold bands and a golden necklace
        • Biri bluffs that he has to deliver the note to Demacus
          • Ezekiel lets slip that Demacus is in the Grey Rocks district
  • Evan and Tytori follow Duncan (and Duncan)
    • our!Duncan convinces murder!Duncan to wait until nightfall to attack the library
      • Then he convinces murder!Duncan to leave the city completely
    • Duncan lets Tytori know to go tell the librarian to evacuate the library
    • Evan spots someone following Duncan and recognizes him, but is not sure from where
      • Saw him leaving the bar earlier when biri!Bud was entering
      • He's definitely Golden Arm
      • Evan confronts him on top the roof
        • And steals his wallet
          • Contents:
            • ID: Councilman Abbot!
            • Some gold
        • Bluff: "Ignatius Blackblade will be mine"
        • Response: "If he does his job, then you may keep him"
  • Tytori goes into the library to warn Balthazar, who is meeting with Councilman Phil(?)
    • Apparently the councilman was already trying to convince him to evacuate
    • Tytori lets him know that he and the kids need to leave without being seen
  • Pick back up with Guiomar and Biri in the cellar with <door creaking noise>
    • <door creaking noise> is also an artificer
    • He puts Biri in the corner
    • Guiomar spills some of the beans
      • DCN opens a secret passage to a massive tunnel system
        • To another room, where he does a secret knock
          • There's a bunch of people in there, including a red kobold who seems to be the leader
          • DCN vouches for us
          • The leader is suspicious of us, especially when we say we're with the Blue Flame
          • It's the underground resistance!
          • Also there: the kobold child we saved (Krane)!

2.16. Session 15 - [2024-07-10 Wed]

  • Duncan purchases a scroll of Major Illusion from a shop associated with the Golden Arm, and hands it off to Evan, who in turn hands it off to Tytori to fake the kids' deaths
  • Biri and Guiomar talk to Cindric
    • They're digging sapper tunnels under Demacus's house right now, which will be done in the next day or so
      • Seems to think that Demacus doesn't have any personal power; Biri and Guiomar set her straight, and she agrees to postpone the raid until they're better prepared
    • Acc'd to the members of the revolution, Demacus came into town and took advantage of an existing power vacuum to take power and install his own puppets in government
  • Biri, Guiomar, Evan, and Tytori reunite at the library and update each other on their respective plans
    • Guiomar is inside the orb with the kids
    • Evan smuggles the orb out and Biri follows
    • Tytori stands by, waiting for Evan to approach
    • Duncan walks up to the library and starts his business by intimidating the illusion kids inside, then burning them and the rest of the library with dragonfire
      • The crowd starts to turn on him, throwing rocks and closing in, until Evan gets them out of it with a smoke trap
  • Duncan returns to the bar where he first accepted his mission and lets Bostan know the deed is done
    • Asks Bostan to send him up the chain of command
  • The rest of the party heads back to the resistance tunnels
    • They've gotten news of the library burning, and their efforts to help slowed down the efforts on the tunnel
  • The party holes up for the night
  • Next day, Duncan wakes up to an uproar from outside
    • At a pulpit in front of the burned library a bunch of people (including Abbot and Kane) are speaking
      • Kane is giving a speech condemning both of the firebombings last night and blaming them on the non-humans
        • Proposing that they arm the Golden Arm as a militia
      • Biri speaks up against him, and draws attention to himself; when the Golden Arm tries to arrest him, he Thunder Steps the guards to death and bloodies Abbot
        • Kane uses this as more fuel for his speech-making

2.17. Session 16 - [2024-07-24 Wed]

  • Duncan is met by Councilman Abbot in the seedy oatmeal bar; Abbot looks kind of beat up
    • Wants to hire Duncan to either kill or expose the resistance
      • Duncan declines to kill the whole resistance, but does agree to kill Cindric
  • Duncan meets the rest of the party in the Resistance tunnels
    • He and Guiomar get rid of a tracking coin Abbot slipped him
    • Talk about the divisions inside the resistance
      • Cindric is the leader mainly of the anarchist faction of the Resistance
    • Guiomar helps correct a mapping mistake in the tunnel
    • Duncan and Guiomar fit the tunnel supports with explosives in case of emergency
  • Van proposes a group to sneak in and scout the place first
    • Tytori, Evan, and a couple of resistance members go
    • Tytori and Evan make it into the mansion
      • Evan finds some documents that incriminate Kane and some of the other council members
        • Also finds a red book with a bunch of info about Guild City and the people there
      • They stumble upon a room with a sense of mourning and death about it
        • Portrait with the name "Agora" on it
          • Looks to be Demacus's dead wife
          • Apparently died young for a dwarf–55
            • The date of her death is just six months before Demacus left Guild City
          • Last tribute at her shrine was yesterday, and he's been keeping up with tribute over the last two years
      • Find some of the plans of the Golden Arm in Demacus's bedroom
        • Looks like they did a genocide of the kenku in the town; hence DCN's anger/joining the resistance
        • Trying to blackmail Cindric using her husband's safety, it hasn't worked so they plan on killing him
        • There's a bunch of other notes here indicating that he knows all the players in the resistance and knows a lot about them
          • Has almost found the Resistance tunnels
        • Demacus does want a civil war here in the city, and he doesn't necessarily hope the Golden Arm wins
      • Demacus has a map with all of the idols and their locations in Guild City
        • Has details about their security and purposes
        • Picture of Han, they have a bounty on his head
          • Same with the judges who didn't kill Waller; he's just trying to start chaos
      • Attic is covered with animal guts, from sacrifice?
        • Cannot discern any specific magical intent here, but seems to be empowering a large, round, magical slab between the floor of the attic and the ceiling of the floor below

2.18. Session 17 - [2024-07-31 Wed]

  • Evan and Tytori are still in the mansion
    • They try to sneak out of the attic down the wall
      • There is a dog: He's chocolate colored, his snout is white, and his eyes are green and perceptive.
        • He is easily fooled by illusions
    • Demacus has some way of making the carrion smell of the attic stay in the house/room
    • Head into the basement
      • Dark, wet
      • Shrine to Aeflux, the Blood Follower, with bloodsoaked bandanas on it
      • Another shrine, to Erythnul, next to a floor-to-ceiling statue
        • Statue is wielding a scythe, wearing a demon-boar mask
          • Made out of an extremely strong fusion of rock and metal
      • On another wall, there's a conspiracy corkboard full of indecipherable codes
        • Written on the wall, nothing to remove
      • There's a slot in the statue; it's powered off; the idol slots into it??
        • But it's not there
      • Evan tries to wash some of the blood connecting the statue and the shrines
      • Top theory: Demacus is trying to make enough chaos and bloodshed to make an offering so these gods will bring his wife back
    • Alarms start going off
      • Tytori and Evan make it out of the basement before the door closes
      • Try to head up to the attic to figure out what's going on that triggered the alarms
        • Looks like it was the person from the resistance who came along w/ them
          • Tytori teleports her out of danger
          • They all book it
  • Return to the resistance tunnels
    • Arguing over whether to storm Demacus's mansion or try to out him as an evil god worshipper; argument is mirrored by Balthazar and Cindric and in turn by the different parties in the rebellion
    • Head back to the hotel; looks like DCN is coming with us
    • Some of the party splits off to go get supplies to disrupt the ritual
    • Guiomar and DCN go back to the hotel room; DCN is about to take his revenge on Bud, but Guiomar talks him out of it

2.19. Session 18 - [2024-08-28 Wed]

  • Bud gets left in the hotel room for housekeeping to find
  • Party sets out to Demacus's mansion
    • The night is tense–Golden Arm are patrolling the street, the city is about to explode
      • People are acting like it's the end of the world
    • See the more peaceful half of the rebel group streaming out of town, trying not to be seen
    • Someone is following us on the rooftops–Councilman Abbot
      • We ambush him in an alley
      • He offers to help us, he has some men who can assist with the raid and thinks he's probably in for the purge if he doesn't help
        • We take him up
    • Get to Demacus's place–all the guards are gone…
    • Advance party goes in
      • House is messier–blood and gore all over the place, overwhelming scent of iron
        • Severed arm with a golden band
        • The dog is fine
      • Make it to the basement–the gore is even worse
        • The ritual table has been moved out of the basement
          • He's probably casting the ritual elsewhere
        • The statue is still down here and has symbols drawn on it in blood; the horns have grown bigger and sharper, but the idol has not been inserted
      • Assault party goes to investigate the attic
        • We're not very good at stealth
        • "If I were you I'd go away right now"
          • Duncan: "I'm not you!" charges
          • A man–Demacus–stands at the ritual altar, covered in blood
            • Pictures of his dead wife sit next to statues of Aeflux, the Blood Follower; gore covers every surface
              • Duncan smashes the table–start combat
      • Meanwhile, in the basement, Evan is arguing with the rebels through the few inches of stone left between the basement and the tunnel
        • She's trying to convince them to give up–or at least delay them
      • Back to the attic–the ritual table is broken, Demacus stands at the far end of the attic with a group of specters floating behind him
        • As the fight starts, the floor–the circle under the floor–starts floating down
        • Demacus tries to throw the idol–Duncan catches it out of the air
        • The party takes him down–as Evan delivers the killing blow, he licks her face
      • As the party cleans up after the fight, Duncan hears a voice telling him to put the idol in the statue
        • He doesn't, and the statue starts weeping blood–"Do you think this is over??"
          • Duncan: "No, I think it's beginning"
          • Its chest cavity opens and starts sucking in the party and bits of the house
          • Guiomar activates the idol by telling it his darkest secret–"I don't know how many people I killed for my freedom"–it lights up with a glow and he gains an aura that nullifies the pull of the statue
            • Before he can make it, Biri gets swallowed by the statue
              • He finds himself in a void where the (eaten?) flunkies are floating, but manages to teleport away
                • As he does so, he sees the hand of a god coming down at him
            • The idol's effect starts crushing the statue, blinking it out of existence
              • Biri has a vision of his deity looking scared, then she disappears
  • Party cleans up
    • Obtain Demacus's elevator–25ft diameter disk that can fly with attunement
    • Do the prayer to consecrate the area, dispel evil
    • Biri still has his abilities, but he cannot reach his patron
      • His patron is the god of chaos, as in the chaos of life
  • Fly away on the disk!

2.20. Session 19 - [2024-09-04 Wed]

  • The disk!
    • With only us on it, 80ft move speed
    • Laden, 30ft move speed
  • Float back to Guild City on the disk
    • See the refugees below us–Balthazar's whole group
      • Looking a little worse for wear; Balthazar is on a stretcher, they must have hit a little bit of trouble
      • Stop to help, fill them in on the latest political news
      • Van and some of the refugees head back to Mountainfall to help with the reconstruction
      • Balthazar and the rest come with us on the disk back to Guild City
    • Make it just out of the mountain pass, into the woods, and make camp with the refugees
      • Tytori finds herself dreaming about her old home in the mountains, in Phydelia's hut
        • "You have grown so much"
        • Phydelia's body (in the dream) is replaced with Tytori's spellbook, but still speaks with her voice
        • This is the person whose killer(s?) Tytori is trying to find; if nothing else, she's worried they're going to come after her as well
        • "I'm only here because something has opened/happened"–she's in Tytori's spellbook, but normally can't speak to her
          • The book has something in it that Phydelia didn't know about before
          • Believes that the person who killed her is a member of the Dark Eye Ninjas
      • Guiomar dreams of the night his house burned
        • It's not the actual memory; soldiers wearing armor emblazoned with a symbol with arms reaching towards each other–Duncan's order
        • He hears someone call a name he hasn't heard in a long time
        • Wakes up, sees Tytori talking to someone–the glowing book–as well as what Duncan sees
      • All in a sort of twilight, astral space, the party sees a lone figure walking towards us
        • The rest of us see a floating ball of light; Duncan see St. Alianne, the founder of his order
        • She's flanked by the soldiers from Guiomar's dream
        • Tytori's book tells her to follow; she catches up to the rest of us
        • Asks us to follow her into a portal; it looks familiar
          • Tells us, "I cannot die, but the one who you fight can kill me"
      • Biri's dream, he feels the electricity from his patron has left his body as he watches the portal open
        • He can hear his deity: "Help"
          • He charges into the portal, we all follow
      • Erynthnul is fighting Biri's god, who is in the form of a shifting figure of lightning
        • Alianne goes straight up to Erynthnul to join in the fight
          • Biri's god can die here, Alianne cannot
        • A massive creature stands before us, a man with a long tail and a mace
          • Big enough to swallow us whole when it unhinges it's jaw
        • Biri gets the feeling that if he can get to his deity, he can save them, but the big tailman blocks our path–roll initiative!
          • Evan looks Erynthnul, the god of slaughter, in the eye and doesn't flinch
          • Biri touches his god–she shrinks down to fit in his hand, tells him to run
          • As we run, the demon god blows on us, taking down everyone but Guiomar, who grabs the spark from Biri and leaves the god's realm
  • Everyone wakes up; Guiomar barfs up Biri's god and give it back to him in the form of a ball of lightning
    • His powers are gone
    • Biri takes his god into his body, and they can now hear each other

2.21. Downtime… 2!!!

I will say this: this next session will be a six month jump, I don’t care for how long downtime takes so I think we can spend the week kind of planning what y’all do during that time. Guild City will be safe again, you will not get parades but the councilmen will probably thank you. ((I don’t know what that means yet)) the guild city will be in a time of political renewal and uncertainty; because of wallers manifesto the city’s printing press will be going back and forth about ideas at all times. The new discussion is making a commoner class (plebeian inspired) for those being born on the island. The discussion involves people being born on the island becomes a commoner class, and therefore forego the need for guild and instead get their own class and rank in the city and vote.

Also due to the inspiration of political and change, more commoners are getting into art. Experimental paintings are being placed along the buildings, certain guild houses are becoming art sanctuaries. Poetry becomes the main form of entertainment and expression in coffee shops and bars, and I bet at least one poet will be banned from certain districts because she made everyone March around chanting something about “more money, more votes, and less poisoned antidotes” you had to be there for it to really make sense
((Commoners here not meaning the plebeian class thing happened and more like: art is no longer for the rich only))

THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED IN THE SIX MONTHS: (you can or cannot be a part of this)

  • Balthazar and his people were forced to wait out the city for a week and the council took that long to decide what to do. Many from the Library of Polsia and Many of the blue Flame guild went against the council’s will to supply food, water, and aid during this time. After a week, the council let them in.
    • The party helps out with the relief effort
  • GOLA THE WOULD-BE MUGGER, has opened a restaurant. It has been getting decent reviews and Gola has a framed painting of Duncan on the wall.
  • Due to council inaction, the people started wondering if the council needs to have more than five people leading–discussions about guild leaders getting a vote. Han is hesitant about this because he doesn’t want to be political. He has asked every person in the guild their opinion on this and he weighs them all.
    • He asks each member individually
      • Duncan, Evan, Guiomar, and Tytori broadly agree that we should go for it; Biri doesn't really understand local politics
  • The people who were born in this city and this island deserve a vote! A budding class is being argued for. Should there be a rank for people born here? Would it bypass the guild system? Should they get a council member too?
  • Evan was commissioned to write a play by Gendry. @Evan what does it look like?
    • Her works become more political
  • OLD MAN LARRY GOT STUCK IN A TREE!
  • The Dragonborn children were delivered to their clans. Were you there? It took two to three weeks. Belthazar had to ask someone else to do it after losing his leg.
    • Evan and Biri go along
      • Their clans are in the Silverfrost Mountains, in the Dragonweald, and the Anstrom Sands
      • The last kid's clan (in the Anstrom Sands) was wiped out while he was gone
        • He comes back to Guild City and is adopted by Balthazar
  • Zageth becomes one of the main voices for the underground press. He is hiding it…poorly. Guiomar would def know because he helps keep the presses running.
  • Jacque and Sarah (the teleporting Tiefling-nightcrawler ripoff-) started dating and they kept getting caught in random places canoodling. Most people have asked them to stop.
    • Biri ends up breaking them up with a Suggestion spell and charitable work
  • Belthazar now works in the Polsia library and has added a more interesting fiction section on the first three floors.
  • One of Biri’s old friends come back to hang—haha, just kidding, everyone he knows is dead. Your nightmares get worse.
  • Narsi’s druids are getting closer to Guild City and everyone dislikes that.
    • Started four months into the break
    • They're attacking supply and merchant caravans entering the city
  • Almon gives Tytori a key to a special room for more intense research and a scrying ball.
    • She investigates the symbol from the dream
      • Reference to a myth:
        • 5 brothers, all of who wanted an item badly, started roaming this island 5000 years ago looking for it (even tho the island has only been known for 500 years)
          • Eldest Brother (Gaelmore) lost his eye in a duel for one of the items they sought against a god (indeterminate); the symbol refers to his one remaining eye
        • Theories that the island disappears and reappears every thousand or so years
        • Finds a poet who wrote a piece about the myth
        • Promises to read the goggles's poem; changes her mind after she hears the poem
  • Plays start happening more often, but they begin to be histories of the Island and of the founding. OR maybe it’ll be a comedy where in one memorable moment: Vecna rides on a dung beetle to war against the clean (and possibly OCPD) Bahmuut.
  • All of you keep having keep having nightmares about a woman named Agora.
  • CARPENTER JOHN visited Guiomar at the guild. @Guiomar, how did that go? Also Jayde asks Guiomar to help out with some of her work.
  • There have been four murders all with the same call sign, a single red thread tied around the dead’s ankles.
    • Doesn't seem to be any connection between the victims
    • Take place at a regular interval (every 7 days?)
  • MUSHROOMS HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED AS A NEW DRUG. There is discussion whether psychedelics help with magics, seeing the future, or is just a really good time.
  • Jacque and Sarah break up after four months of dating. It was an ugly break-up. Plates were broken, blood was drawn, and words were said. Han had to ask everyone to think twice before dating people in the guild and really think about what it means to be stuck in a place for five years with them.
  • OLD MAN LARRY GETS STUCK IN A TREE AGAIN!
  • Ezir, the lazy guard, becomes one of the foremost poets in the poet circle. His poem Howl-(at the moon, not the howl poem from ginsberg)-has become a household name.
  • Evan and Duncan are having a baby, and leaving the party for out-of-city adventuring purposes
  • You guys have been here for one year! They want to throw a party! (THIS IS WHERE WE WILL REALLY BE PICKING UP!)

2.22. Session 20 - [2024-09-18 Wed]

  • Start at the party celebrating our "class's" 1st year anniversary
    • There's a lot of people there who recognize us
    • We hear Biri talking to himself
      • Guiomar tells him to go talk to his god–somewhere where people can't hear him
  • Tytori wakes up the morning after the party to her Murder Alarm–it's happening in the next 7 days
    • Tytori and Guiomar head back to the guild to get Biri
      • Meet Corbin–"I'm your union rep"
      • Also meet Kunai–"…"
    • Discussing
      • Murder locations are all over
      • Each murder has been roughly a month apart
      • All took place between late night and early AM
    • Tytori is going to do another divination to get the exact location

Counterclock wise,
A dead of any and all,
Matters not to this thrall,
laid out the map, toward
BlueFlame Guild and Old Ward

2.23. Session 21 - [2024-10-02 Wed]

  • Party sets out to find the murderer
    • Kunai carries Corvin; Biri disguises himself as a drunk, Guiomar shadows him
      • Kunai/Corvin notice two people conspicuously following Biri, and one following further back
      • Guiomar and Biri try to stop the first two; Corbin and Kunai stop the second
        • He's acting strange; he's moving his lips as if he's talking but no sound is coming out
        • Kunai tries to grapple; the guy pulls a knife on her
        • Muggers get put to sleep, third guy gets tied up
    • Tytori Detects Thoughts on the third guy; there's someone else in his head
      • Can hear the person whose body this is screaming in terror; they're a prisoner in their own mind
        • The second voice is telling them to kill himself
        • Dispel the enthrallment
        • He's the guy; has a red string on him
        • Looks like a student from the Old Ward. Body is worn out–hasn't slept in days, and has been walking around enough to wear through his boots
  • Tytori auguries again; the red string murder has been prevented, but the thrall will probably be killed
  • We interrogate the guy
    • He hasn't been himself for two months–the same time that the murders started
    • He started cheating at school, going to underground essay writing rings to buy essays
      • Got close to this one guy who called himself "The Professor"
        • Wearing a catseye type necklace
        • Met in the cafe near the Arch
    • Remembers mostly smells and sensations, nothing very specific
      • At the end of each murder, remembers the smell of salt and the creaking of wood, a bell ringing n the distance

2.24. Session 22 - [2024-10-16 Wed]

  • Party splits to investigate
  • Kunai and Tytori go to the docks
    • See a boat in the distance, just circling instead of coming into port
      • Unicorn figurehead, orangish-red sails (requires foreign dye)
      • They board the boat
        • Thrall piloting the boat; 'further along' than Marcus was
        • The boat is super old, as in cracked rails and chipped paint
        • Near the pilot is a masterwork silver horn with a red band, which is mounted to the deck
  • Biri and Guiomar go to the Arch
    • Get into one of the cafes Marcus mentioned
    • A stranger wanders up to Biri, offers to help him with his homework/essay
      • "The Adjunct"
        • Points him to a dwarf, a redhead elf(?)(IT'S RED), and a guy with a real scraggly mustache
          • The dwarf and Red leave because they recognize Tytori's work
          • Guy with the mustache says he knows someone else who can help, but they'll have to leave
    • Guiomar hears a conversation next to him about some history of warfare of a nearby region off the island
      • Gets a call on the sending stone from Tytori, who describes the boat situatio
    • Biri buys one of the Professor's essays
      • Guiomar examines the essay; it has ink that may allow someone to track us
  • Party meets up at the boat
    • Guiomar notices that the deck is very brittle with age, and there are hand carvings of weapons all over it
      • Alternating rows of weapons
    • Feronia is getting a bad vibe from the whole boat
    • Kunai takes the horn, and then breaks it over her knee
      • Tytori examines the band that was on the horn; she knows something about it?
    • A breeze starts coming in; the sails have been gashed, but the boat still moves on the wind
    • Party goes belowdecks; the lower floor is somehow larger
      • Can't hear the sound of the ocean; can hear a fire in a hearth
      • Looks like an entire townhouse in the hold of this ship
        • Two thralls in the room, tied to their chairs
        • Another by the kitchen door, wearing a white suit and holding a violin
        • Shapes of weapons are still etched in the carpet here, same as on the deck
        • Check the kitchen
          • More impossible architecture, another thrall tied up near the stove
        • The violin thrall starts playing; Kunai grabs its violin and throws it into the fireplace
          • The thrall follows; Biri stops it
        • Bedroom
          • Master room, well-decorated
            • Paintings of:
